I am so excited to finally share my front porch all ready for the season! This year I really want to not only keep things simple, but for everything to easily transition right from the holidays and into winter. I always struggle with how to fill my planters for the winter season. I am usually left with a dead looking tree by mid January!
This year it was my sweet friend Laura of Prep Your Step to the rescue! She literally turns your porch planters from boring to wow and is sharing 3 simple tips to “Prep Your Step”.
HEIGHT – Always give enough height to fill the space but make sure it doesn’t overpower your planter. Laura says that fullness is best and that a design that is planted too low inside the planter may not “catch the eye”. I love how in my planters she added height by using tall magnolia large everygreen branches.
COLOR – Laura says to always consider the colors of the season when planning your planter as well as how they will tie in with the exterior of your home. She used some blue cypress sprigs in my planters to tie in with the blue-gray ribbon I used on my wreaths.
ACCENT – Laura always adds an element of nature as an accent piece. She says this really warms the entry and creates a theme. In my planters, she used large pinecones, birch branches and magnolia which are perfect for the winter season.
I truly love my porch this year! It is festive enough for the holiday season but will easily transistion right through the winter season. Be sure to check out and follow Laura at Prep Your Step for tips, inspo and much more!
