One of my favorite features in our home is the brick flooring we added to our mudroom. 6 years later and it is still going strong and looks just as beautiful as install day!
When designing and building our home, a large mudroom was an essential. With 3 kids in and out all day between school and sports, a floor material that was durable and low maintenance was key! I love the choice we made in installing brick flooring!
DIY FRIENDLY: Believe it or not, we installed the brick ourselves. The process took a few days and the herringbone pattern was certainly a labor of love. The install was basically like laying tile on a bathroom floor. Handy hubby had some knowledge in laying and cutting tile which came in hand in installing the brick flooring. No mortar was required, we just used grout from our local hardware store. The install is truly a DIY friendly project!
DURABLE & LOW MAINTENANCE: As mentioned before, I wanted a material that was not only durable but easy to maintain. I love that we don’t have to seal the brick EVER and it is a durable material that will last years and years. Our mudroom is our main exit and entry and has had its fair share of foot traffic from rainy days to snow days and the floor is easy to clean. I just sweep up any mess with a broom or floor vacuum.
STYLE & BEAUTY: Not only does the brick flooring truly make a statement in our home {it is one of the most complemented features} I love the beauty of the flooring. It is a unique feature yet it is timeless and classic. The thin brick like we used comes in so many sizes, shapes and colors and goes with any decor style.
Years later I have never regretted the choice we made in installing the brick flooring in our mudroom. It is beautiful and timeless and yet durable with low maintenance which is exactly what I need in our busy home with 3 young kids.
