Good bye, winter and HELLO SPRING! Our front porch was looking a bit lifeless. It was time to trash the brown, dead wreaths and winter planters and add a few spring touches to the porch. This is such a tricky time of year though for planters. It can be warm and 70 degrees one day and then cold and in the 30s the next day! I hit up my Target store and a local nursery and was able to give our front porch a refresh! Bring on spring!
Target has some beautiful wreaths in stores now! I loved these from the Threshold Studio McGee line. They weren’t super springy and pretty transitional for each season! They are a mix of olive leaves and eucalyptus! Just perfect to bring some life back to our front porch! I easily hung these with outdoor command hooks!

I headed to our local nursery for some plants for our planters. There was honestly slim pickings! It is early March here so plants, shrubs and flowers are sparse. It won’t be until April when plants and flowers really start hitting the nurseries. I had intended to pick up some boxwoods but they didn’t have many. I bought two of these Japanese Andromedas which are a version of Lilly of the Valley. They are evergreens which I love since they will stay green all year and in the late spring they bloom small white flowers. Just perfect for our porch! I asked if they would work in containers and they told me yes! They love some shade too and just need to be watered regularly. We will plant them in the ground in late April.
TIP: If you are in a cooler climate like me, look for boxwoods or even compact holly. You want shrubs or bushes that are evergreen and can be planted in the ground in late spring. If you want some flowers, look for pansies. They come in a few colors and are cold and frost tolerant.

Lastly, no front porch is complete without cute layered door mats. These two have been going strong for a few years and are both Amazon finds. The possibilities are endless when it comes to layering door mats and they can easily be switched up for the seasons. Since we have double front doors, I have a rug that measures 3×5 and then an “estate” sized door mat. Sizing really depends on the size of your front doors.
