Fall baking season is here! I baked up an oldie but a goodie this afternoon…apple crisp! It is one of our faves and easy cleanup! Everything is pretty much mixed right in the baking dish! The whole house smelled like fall today! Enjoy!
SIMPLE APPLE CRISP
For the filling:
6-8 granny smith apples, peeled, cored & sliced
½ cup white sugar
1/2 a lemon, juiced
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
For the topping:
1 stick unsalted butter
1 cup light brown sugar
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup flour
1/3 cup rolled oats
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Stir together the filling ingredients into a 9″ baking dish.
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the brown sugar and salt.
Gently stir in the oatmeal and flour. Crumble over the apple filling. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until browned and bubbly.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
*You can also make ahead, place in fridge and then bake for 60-75 minutes or until warmed through.*
