It’s the one cabinet or drawer that always gets pushed to the back burner when it comes to organization. This year I was determined to clear the clutter of old spices and jars and actually organize it so that I could find what I am looking for when cooking. It ended up being an easy task to get the spice cabinet organized and I will share the few things I did and used to make it all organized!
Here is a little peek at the before…I honestly don’t know what is hiding back there but I was determined to get rid of anything expired and empty.
After going through it all, it wasn’t as bad as I thought! My oldest spice was from 2010…don’t judge! I placed everything I was keeping on one side of the counter and the ones I was tossing on the other side. Before throwing the expired spices away, I did take note of which ones I was tossing so I could replace them on my next trip to the grocery store.
Next up, the fun part! I scored a bamboo expandable shelf at The Container Store that fit perfectly in our cabinet. It actually really helped in maximizing the space and I had even more room than before.
I also bought all new glass jars and fun labels off of Amazon. The glass jar set came with metal lids and plastic caps. These really helped the organization of the spices and were game changers! I loved the label set. It had more spices that I could even think of, many I hadn’t heard of before, and it came with a black label and a white one which I thought was really nice.
It didn’t take long to get the spices all in new jars and the cabinet all organized again! TIP: On a small piece of paper or index card, write down the spice and expiration date. I slipped this to the side of the shelf so that I had it on hand when it was time to clean this out again. You can also use a piece of masking tape, place it on the botton of the jar and write the expiration date.
I truly LOVE the way it came out…all nice and organized! And it makes finding things SO much easier! It looks oh so pretty too!
I ended up using both sets of labels, the black on one side and the white on the other. I figured I had them so why not!
Below I share all the items I used to get the spices organized! If you have a drawer you store your spices in, you can use the same organization but just get a drawer organizer instead!
