Untangle your jewelry mess and get it all organized! When we were designing our closet, a dedicated jewelry drawer was a must on my list! Basically, I wanted a jewlery “bar”! LOL!
With a few storage solutions, I am now able to not only find all my jewelry, but I actually wear it! And it’s not in a tangled mess anymore! Today, I am sharing a few simple tips on getting it all organized and more accessible so you can show off your favorite pieces!
First, purge, purge, purge! Any pieces that you no longer wear, are out of style or are broken or missing pieces, either donate, trash or look in to getting repaired, depending on the value and/or if it’s a sentimental piece. I had a lot of jewelry! I really only kept pieces I loved or those that were of value and handed down to me that I wanted to pass on to my girls. Once you have an idea on what you are holding on to and keeping, group those items and then start organizing!
One major request when we were designing the layout of our closet was that I had a dedicated drawer or jewelry/valet drawer. I wanted a place I could store everything and have it easily accessible. It worked out that not only did I get the drawer, but I used the shelf on top to store everyday pieces, basically my “go tos”!
A quick trip to The Container Store and I was able to find all I needed to get the jewelry drawer {and storage} of my dreams! I love the velvet lined boxes they have in store. I was able to group and compartmentalize all my pieces and they are all interchangeable and stackable. If you don’t have a dedicated drawer to use, they also have beautiful jewelry boxes you can display on a dresser or nightstand.
Next, on the top shelf I bought a stand that holds all my everyday necklaces and bracelets. It keeps everything in one place, untangled and visible so I can actually see what I have! Before, it was all a tangled mess in a small jewelry pouch! They have stands like these at The Container Store, Home Goods, and TJ Maxx. They come in so many different styles and sizes to fit any decor style and space!
I also purchased a small mirrored box to hold my more delicate, everyday pieces such as my wedding bands and diamond earrings. You can also use a small tray or dish. I liked the lidded box as it kept items more protected since it closes.
For fun, I added a gold mirror and it became an instant “jewelry bar”! Once you get a dedicated space for anything and get it organized, it is easily manageable to actually keep it organized!
Another tip: my fine jewelry, meaning pieces I don’t wear often, family heirlooms, or pieces I can’t bear to part with are in their own separate box tucked away in our closet. I purchased small, velvet pouches for each piece to keep them safe and protected and hope to pass down several pieces to my girls one day! Having all that in one contained box that is easily accessible is nice, yet it’s tucked away for safe keeping.
I hope all this helps in getting your jewelry all organized and in a more accessible state! And who doesn’t want to have a mini jewelry bar in their closet! Happy organizing, friends!
