It’s tulip season! I truly love tulips! They scream spring to me and I scoop up as many bouquets as I can during the season! They can be a bit fickle and I actually don’t mind when they start to droop. Today, I am sharing a few tricks in keeping fresh cut tulips from drooping and to make your bouquet last!
TIP #1: Once you get your fresh tulips home, fill a large vase with cool water. Cut your tulips at an angle and place them in the water. Make sure any leaves that will be under the water are removed. This will help in keeping your water clean and fresh.
TIP #2: This one is an old wives tale BUT it does work! Dropping a penny into you water has said to keep your tulips from drooping. The copper in the penny acts as a fungicide and naturally kills any bacteria that may be hiding in your flower vase. **Only pennies made before 1982 have 95% copper in them. Newer pennies will not work so SAVE those old pennies and use them for your floral arrangements.
TIP #3: Change the water in your vase every other day. Replace with cool, clean water. I also recut the stems every 3 days. This works with any florals and greenery. Recutting the stems and replacing the water keeps the bouquet fresh and the blooming longer.
BONUS TIP: This is a florist trick! Add a few drops of vodka to your water. This is known to slow the wilting of your flowers and keep them fresh longer.
I hope these tips help in keeping your beautiful bouquets of tulips lasting longer! Happy spring!
