One thing I LOVE about the fall season are the beautiful blooms of the mums in every garden and on every porch! But year after year, I found myself buying mums once every few weeks {or more} and finally I spoke with someone at the garden center and they shared a little trick that honestly does the trick in getting your mums to last all season!
And it honestly is not mind blowing! When picking out and purchasing your mums, make sure you grab ones with very tight buds, almost closed that you wouldn’t even know what color they were going to be! I know we all want instant satisfaction BUT I promise it will pay off in the end! By getting them with tight buds, you will ensure a much longer bloom time and you won’t be running back to the store for more anytime soon!
The picture above shows mine about a week or so after I bought them! They are slowly starting to bloom! The garden center also told me that once they bloom, they should last for about 6 weeks if properly cared for! They say to keep them well watered but I usually water mine when the soil feels a bit dry or about every 3 days.
One last tip…they say full sun! I have put mine in full sun every year, usually on the front steps of our front porch! They honestly never last and turn brown rather quickly after blooming. This year I kept them near the front doors under our covered porch and they have done much better with the indirect sunlight. Not sure if that will work for everyone, but I wanted to share it!
I hope that helps y’all and your mums this year! Happy Fall, y’all!
