The New Year always brings the time for resolutions for everyone! The biggest one for most people is to get healthy! Sometimes its a hard one to stick with and commit to for the long term if you go full steam ahead. For me, I stopped with the New Year’s resolutions {after many failed cleanses and diets} and decided to just make small changes throughout the year that were easy to stick to and were reasonable. Over the past few years, some of those changes were…cutting out all sodas, only one cup of coffee per day, taking a daily multivitamin, apple cider vinegar water daily {it’s gross but you will get used to the taste!}, adding collagen powder to my morning coffee…those are just a few! Going full steam ahead just set me up for failure so each month or so I would always try and incorporate a healthy lifestyle change and it was so much easier to adjust to and stick with!
For me, being healthy is honestly about making healthy choices but giving myself grace. If I want to have an Oreo cookie for dessert, I will have an Oreo cookie, I just won’t sit and eat 10 at one time! That’s giving myself grace to sneak a little treat but not overdo it. Trying to fit in some kind of workout every day, even if that means 25 pushups and 50 squats before bedtime! Hey, at least I did something!
We all try and eat healthy and we all try and workout! But sometimes life is busy and it just gets in the way! Exercise is one I am still honestly struggling with! The day seems to go by so quick that I never seem to fit a workout in. I don’t belong to a gym because I can honestly never find the time to actually get there! Maybe once my youngest goes to school full time it will be easier but for now, I try and work out at home as much as I can. Even if that means squeezing in a 30 minute workout with 3 kids either staring at me or doing it right alongside me!
I truly love doing yoga and it may not be an extreme workout but for me it truly does build strength, tones my body and in general I feel great after doing it! Believe it or not, I actually go to the gym almost every day, all summer long while we are in Tennessee. The lack of schedule in the summer, the extra set of hands with my kids {my parents} and the fact that my sister is a yoga teacher really gets me motivated to go! But I don’t have that luxury during the school year so when I am home I try and do a daily workout with Yoga with Adriene! It’s all free videos that you can start anytime and are no more than an hour long! In fact, sometimes my kids do them with me! It’s a great way to get your workout in and keep your kids entertained! When I can’t do yoga, I will DO something whether its lift some hand weights during commercials, push ups and triceps dips on the stairs or squats while I am making dinner! Yep, it’s a funny sight to see but I am getting that workout in no matter what!
So, I hope this motivates you to give yourself a bit of grace on those New Year’s Resolutions! I am not saying that my plan or lifestyle works best for everyone, it is what works best for me, but making those small changes do help me in leading a healthier lifestyle.
