Today I am sharing a recent project that I didn’t have to beg “handy husband” too much to make! And he made it in one afternoon! I was so tired of the kids tossing their shoes off and throwing them across our front porch on rainy days. Couldn’t they just line them up nicely? Over Christmas break, I found the solution! And on my favorite site…Magnolia Market! Joanna Gaines first shared this project on her blog and you can check out the detailed DIY here. We did our wooden shoe tray a bit differently (see below) and it cost about $35 to make!
Instead of using one solid piece for the bottom, we used 3″ planks of wood and cut them each 36″ long, glued them together, then formed the box around it. We did this because 1) it was cheaper than buying a whole piece of wood and cutting it to size and 2) we didn’t need to screw anything together, therefore it was a bit easier. We attached the casters to the bottom and I didn’t add the handles to it. I may later on but didn’t think I needed them. I stained it in Dark Walnut by Minwax and absolutely love it!
I couldn’t bear to toss my boxwood wreath away from over the holidays (two of them didn’t make it because they were in direct sunlight on our porch for too long) so I added it here and I think its so cute! I also found the galvanized bucket in the dollar spot at Target for $3. I use it to store our umbrellas. Do you not love the rope handles on it?
I placed it next to our side door where we go in and out of the most. And I can always roll it up front when we have guests coming on a rainy or snowy day! It was a fun project. Thank you for the inspiration, Joanna!
