Over spring break, we FINALLY got around to staining the front porch. I am not going to lie, it was grueling, and I still can’t barely move, but it was 100% worth it. I am in love with the color and the way the brown pops with our gray siding and white trim.
The floors of our deck are pressure treated wood so they always recommend waiting a few months before staining. So even though the porch was done in the fall, we had to wait all winter to stain and last week we finally got some nice weather {and some free time} to get it done. Here is a before picture.
We ended up using Behr Premium Semi-Transparent Weatherproofing All-in-one Wood Stain & Sealer and I couldn’t be more happy with the process and results. It was easy to apply, dried quickly and the color is absolutely gorgeous! I chose Cordovan Brown and only ended up doing one coat because I didn’t want it too dark.
The key is prep! Make sure your wood is cleaned {we sprayed down with water} and then completely dry before applying.
Sweet handy hubby tried to roll it and it just did not work! Perhaps we didn’t have the right roller applicator so we ended up hand brushing it all. You don’t realize quite how big the job is until you are in the midst of it all so it took a few hours to complete.
It needs to cure for 72 hours once you are finished so we couldn’t walk on it for a few days. I am in love with the results and finally feel like we have some front curb appeal. Now I am on the hunt for some welcome mats and planters!
