Merry, merry! Every year I usually buy a few new ornaments for our tree. I walking through Michael’s the other day and came across these really cute unfinished wood ornaments. They were on sale for 60% off so they only ended up being $.60 each. What a steal! I really had no clue what I was going to do with them…but I bought them anyway for under $5 and I walked away with 6 new ornaments.
I decided to do one coat of Minwax Dark Walnut stain on each ornament. This was all experimenting so I honestly had no plans for the end result and just went with it!
After the stain was dried, I ended up painting them with a white chalk paint I had lying around. I just painted them all over and then set them out to dry. After the white paint was all dry, I took a strip of flexible sanding paper and sanded them all down. I love how they turned out with a bit of vintage charm.
They look like they are decades old and turned out beautiful! This was the first time I had actually layered stain and then paint and I love the look. I want to try this on a few more pieces using the same technique.
‘Tis the season for cute ornaments and some DIY-ing! Merry Christmas all!
