I love not only the simplicity of this wreath but the fact that you can honestly leave it out well after the holiday season! Dress it up for the Christmas season with ribbon and bells and remove them after the holidays are over! You can really make this your own by adding pinecones or berries and I love the smell and look of fresh eucalyptus but you can certainly go faux.
With only a few tools and faux greenery from my local craft, I made this in less than a half in hour! ‘Tis the season to deck the halls! Let’s get started!
For this project you will need an 18″ green wreath base, faux juniper/cedar branches {I found mine in the seasonal floral section of Michael’s} and half of a 6′ pine garland, also found at Michael’s.
Begin by “fluffing” out your wreath base. You need to work out the branches and spread them out. Since it has been most likely sitting on a shelf or in a box, it will look very flat. Fluffing it out as best you can gives shape to your wreath and makes a great base for when you start adding in the faux greenery.
Next, using floral wire cutters, cut your faux branches and garland up into smaller pieces.
Once you have your greenery cut up, start laying it on top of the wreath base and tucking it into the branches. There may be some trial and error here where you may have to move the pieces around to get the look that you want.
Once you have your layout complete, using green floral wire, you can begin wrapping the loose stems and branches to the base of the wreath. It’s best to wrap the wire all the way around the wreath base and twist so that the pieces stay secure. Continue doing this all around the wreath until all the pieces are secure.
Lastly, take your fresh {or faux} eucalyptus pieces and tuck them in to any gaps in the wreath base. I didn’t attach these so that once they dried out I can easily replace them again during the season.
Now stand back and admire the beautiful wreath you just made for the season! You can hang it with ribbon and place it in a window, hang on your front door. I may place it in the center of the tobacco basket we have on our fireplace. I love that this is such an easy DIY that you can enjoy all season long!
