We all have electronics just hanging out on our shelves or TV console table. The DVD player or cable box among other things. They are black and ugly and can pretty much be an eyesore to your decor if you don’t have a cabinet to hide them in. Well today, I have solution for you that I sought long and hard for! A pretty box cover that sits right over your stack of electronics and it was easy and cheap to make!
Handy hubby spent some tireless weekends building us floating shelves on each side of our fireplace. They are nice and white and pretty but to be honest….the stack of electronics were quite the eyesore. It was driving me nuts to say the least! It was a stack of ugly, black electronics and they stuck out like a sore thumb amongst all our light and white decor.
I knew there had to be a solution so I searched and searched on go to site, Pinterest and found a few solutions. I showed them to handy hubby and after I bought the few materials needed, he made it in one afternoon. All you need is a sheet or two of this metal material that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. It comes in two different sizes, this is the largest and a handful of different designs. With my 40% off coupon, it came to about $7 a sheet.
Then handy hubby found some extra wood pieces he had laying around and after some careful measuring of exactly how wide and tall we need the box cover to be, he cut these two pieces to fit along each side.
The metal sheets are pliable so we cut and bent them to make the box. Then using a staple gun, we stapled the sheeting to the tops and fronts of the wood boards. Now you can’t see this part, because handy hubby went an extra step and placed trim along the top and front to fancy it up a bit. He used a nail gun to secure those into place. I ended up chalk painting the whole box {wood sides, trim and metal sheetings} in white chalk paint.
The best part of the box is that with the metal sheeting, your electronics won’t overheat since there is air flow and your remote controls work right through the front. We do have to take it off if we want to play a DVD but that’s no biggie. All in all, it hides the ugly black electronics and goes well with my decor and it cost less than $15 to make!
