When designing our finished basement space, we knew we wanted some type of bar area without giving up a ton of space. We went back and forth on adding a long bar to one area of the basement and then after taking a look at the empty space, we decided to utilize a space under the staircase and make it a small bar nook.
We created a space that was big enough to hold a beverage center for drinks, wine, etc and then cabinetry. Since Aaron was building out the space, we really were able to design the cabinetry to fit the space and our needs. I knew I wanted at least a drawer and cabinet. Aaron truly is handy and first designed and built the base of the cabinet.
We ordered drawers that were made to order, cabinet door fronts and then pull out drawers for the interior of the cabinet. They take awhile to come as they are made to order but are perfect if you are looking for custom cabinetry and can build the base yourself.
Once all the base was built and the fronts were in, I first primed the entire base and then painted the cabinetry using Benjamin Moore’s Advance paint line. As always, my go to color is Alabaster white.
Once the paint was dried and set for a few days, we installed the cabinet. I skipped a few steps in the process but I am in love with the finished look. Stay tuned for part two where I go over in detail countertops and the beverage center we installed. I am so happy with this space and it was a great way to utilize a space under the stairs without sacrificing a ton of space in the basement.
