It has been on my to do list for awhile now…organizing our kitchen! A good clean out was long over due and over the course of a week, I organized, cleared the clutter and moved some things around to make our kitchen a bit more functionable. Drawer by drawer, cabinet by cabinet…it is now done and it feels so good to finally be all organized!
The first big step is getting rid of things that you no longer use or want, anything that is broken or you may have dupes of. I donated a lot of things on our town’s Buy Nothing Facebook page. One person’s trash is another’s treasure, right?
I bought bamboo drawer organizers from Amazon, here is what I used, to organize all our utensils and cooking tools. These are expandable and should fit in most drawers and the smaller compartments really keep things organized.
Next up were pots and pans and baking dishes. I didn’t realize how many dupes I had or baking dishes that were worn {hello, rust on the aluminum ones!} so this was a good clean out! I was able to organize and contain it all in the 4 oversized drawers we have in our kitchen on each side of our oven for easy access.
Our spice cabinet was next. I had already organized all our spice jars a few years ago but the cooking and baking items such as olive oils and vinegars and baking needs were a hot mess. Anything that was expired got tossed, I had a lot of dupes too {check before hitting the grocery store, Michele!!} and I used glass containers for items such as baking soda and baking powder and a plastic bin for smaller baking supplies such as cupcake liners and food coloring.
I also cleaned up the cooking and baking tools we stored on our kitchen counter. I bought a new salt and pepper mill set {I love the white and wood on this set I got} and got a new marble spoon rest. It looks so crisp and clean!
I cleaned up the cabinet that stores our dishes and serving dishes. I got rid of things we no longer used and tossed a few pieces that had chips and cracks.
Lastly was our new applicance cabinet. When we finished our pantry closet and moved all our food in there, we had a ton of newfound storage in this set of cabinets. The pullout drawers store a lot and make everything easily accessible.
This much needed project that has been on my to do list for awhile was well worth it! Now we have so much more space after getting rid of things and our cooking tools, baking dishes and appliances are so much more accessible. Plus, I have room for more stuff! YAY!
