Let’s be honest! We are the CEO of this tiny organization we call home! It is hard to keep sane and most days I am barely surviving! If I made it through the day in one piece, I call that a success! I get asked all the time how I keep sane with 3 kids and manage it all! I will admit as they have gotten older and involved in more sports and activities, it has gotten HARD! I have a few habits I kind of started that make our mornings and afternoons run a bit smoother! This is what works for us and seriously just keeps me afloat!
1. SYNCH YOUR CALENDARS – It’s a silly little thing but one hubby and I didn’t do for years! I was honestly tired of him constantly calling or texting me…”What time is Emma’s game?” or “Where is the game at?” and “What time do I have to pick them up?”. It got frustrating and I finally synched up all our devices. If I add it to my laptop, I can see it on my phone, iPad, Apple Watch. It has been really helpful and if something changes, it is automatically synched up! No child is late or left behind, lol!
2. SET REMINDERS IN YOUR CALENDAR – Another one I hadn’t been using for years! How many times did it take for me to forge we were in charge of school snack or that it was spirit day? Way too many! I started setting a day reminder in my phone so I knew the night before to prep those orange slices or get those green and gold spirit wear items out of the bin! It helps so much! I promise it’s the only way I remember little things like that! And…I don’t feel bad if my kiddos missed spirit day!
3. PLAN OUT YOUR MEALS FOR THE WEEK & TRY AND MAKE DINNER EARLY IN THE DAY – I got into this habit when we first got married and were both working full time and it has been helpful even more once we had kids! I take a look at the week ahead, see the nights we may need to do some quick and easy {or Chick Fil-a drive thru} and plan ahead! That way I am not staring into the fridge at 5:30 trying to figure out what to make! Also, if I can, at least once a week I try and prep the meal ahead of time, put it in the fridge and then throw it in the oven for dinner! It makes afternoons much less stressful when I am trying to help the kids with homework and studying or carting them around to one of their activities! Dinner is ready when we are!
4. TAKE THE EXTRA 10 MINUTES ON SUNDAY NIGHT AND PREP SOME FRUITS & VEGGIES FOR THE WEEK – This is something I started doing last school year. I honestly couldn’t believe it took me so long to thing if it! I getting tired of cutting up fruit for lunches and then at snack time the kids were grabbing something unhealthy because they didn’t want to wait for me to cut up an orange or some carrots. Now every Sunday night, I cut up a whole bunch of fruit and veggies {think oranges, carrots, celery, cantaloupe, watermelon, pineapple} and store it in glass containers in the fridge. Snack time is healthier and on demand for anyone that is hungry!
5. PACK YOUR KIDS LUNCHES THE NIGHT BEFORE – I am not a morning person and feel like we are always scrambling to get out the door as it is! Packing school lunches at night is a HUGE time saver for me! And this is where too all that pre cut fruit and veggies come in hand again! I got into this habit a few years ago and it saves on any extra morning rush and gets the kids out the door on time as they aren’t waiting for me to pack their lunch! Trust me, the last thing I want to do is pack lunch after a long day but it really is so much more helpful to me to have it all packed up and ready to go in the morning!
